Miss Leah sure enjoyed working with the girls at our Summer Dance Camp! The little ones (ages 3-5) had fun making fairy wands, crowns, paper ballerina chains, and Little Mermaid caverns.
Our older dancers had fun making two friendship bracelets – one to keep and one to give away to a new friend at camp. They also made cute denim purses, and were very busy being artists painting our background scenery of the beach and palm trees.
All of the dancers also enjoyed some fun treats like strawberry smoothies, s’mores, homeade cookies and apples, peanut butter, and marshmallows that made them look like they had funny teeth!
With our beach and Hawaiian theme, all of the dancers learned to do the hula. They learned that in Hawaii, doing the hula is really dancing a story. Our little girls danced and sang to the song “Pearly Shells.” They also learned classical ballet steps to the Little Mermaid song “Part of Your World.” They were so cute onstage with their hula skirts and leis and cute singing voices!
Our older class learned their songs very quickly and kept Miss Leah on her toes!
They learned their Hawaiian hula song “The Hukilau” on the very first day! So, Miss Leah challenged them with a pretty difficult jazz/hip hop song which was a fun, fast version of Elvis Presley‘s “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” which was featured in the movie “Lilo and Stitch.” Once they got that down, Miss Leah added one more ballet song for them to work on, the Beach Boys‘ ”Surfer Girl.” They did an amazing job on all three songs at our Summer Dance Camp Recital!
We had so much fun with you girls and hope to see you all in the fall!!
Thanks Lori! I AM very, very proud of these young ballerinas! They worked so hard and I really look forward to working with them in the fall too!
