Welcome to Fairytale Ballet! We hope your daughters’ first experiences with our program were good ones! We know that we sure enjoyed meeting your dancers and dancing with them.
We would like to explain a little about how the rehearsals work. Miss Leah first works on stretching exercises and warm ups, and then each week, she will teach the girls one or two new dance steps.
Your dancers may have felt a little overwhelmed with all they learned last night, but that’s okay! Miss Leah reviews these steps over and over until they literally become a part of the dancer’s soul! The steps they learned last night build the foundation. Soon you will see them doing these steps all over the house, and at Grandma’s house, and at the grocery store! And that’s the goal.
After stretches and new steps, the girls hear a fairytale (or part of one). Hearing the story helps the dancers get “into character” for the song that Miss Leah choreographs to go with the story. Using fairytales is a wonderful way to teach ballet to little girls. First, the girls love fairytales, and they love to dance, and since ballet is really about dancing to a story, it seems so natural to combine the two! Familiarity with the stories, movies and songs makes the girls more comfortable when learning dance steps to a particular song. They remember what was happening in the movie at the time the song was being played and that helps them to dance with more than just their feet; it allows them to dance with their hearts! And that is the essence of our goal for the girls – to be heart dancers, not just feet dancers!
In our “Hollywood, Here I Come” class, our dancers got quite the workout. They learned part of the High School Musical song, We’re All in This Together. We hope your dancers had fun learning some of the choreography to this song. Most of the movements were taken right out of the movie, so the next time they watch it, they can dance along!
